WEBVTT Kind: captions Language: en 1 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:01.721 - I was in the pub with this man the other week 25 00:00:01.721 --> 00:00:02.554 - Hello! 3 00:00:02.554 --> 00:00:03.809 - And we were talking about moderation. 4 00:00:03.809 --> 00:00:06.547 - Yeah, I've got a friend, Mark. Hello Mark! 5 00:00:06.547 --> 00:00:08.065 Who streams on Mixer, 6 00:00:08.065 --> 00:00:10.614 and I go along and I moderate for him occasionally. 7 00:00:10.614 --> 00:00:13.637 When they ban somebody out of the chat for being offensive, 8 00:00:13.637 --> 00:00:15.845 or dull, or using too many emojis, he calls it: 9 00:00:15.845 --> 00:00:17.207 'the banhammer'! 10 00:00:17.207 --> 00:00:19.461 - Which is a name that has been going for a long, long time. 11 00:00:19.461 --> 00:00:21.963 Like, back in the forum days, 15-20 years ago, moderators 12 00:00:21.963 --> 00:00:24.692 wielded this metaphorical banhammer. 13 00:00:24.692 --> 00:00:28.123 - However, in the pub I say this, and his eyes light up, 14 00:00:28.123 --> 00:00:31.913 and I'm not 100% sure why, but here we are now... 15 00:00:31.913 --> 00:00:34.266 - We've made a banhammer. Do you want to, erm... 16 00:00:34.266 --> 00:00:35.700 - Yeah, alright. 17 00:00:35.700 --> 00:00:38.439 - Agh! There is, in fact, a hammer in here. 18 00:00:38.439 --> 00:00:41.138 - There we go, there's one end of it, there's the other. 19 00:00:41.138 --> 00:00:42.217 There you go, that's it. 20 00:00:42.217 --> 00:00:43.050 - Thank you! 21 00:00:43.050 --> 00:00:46.072 - So what's going to happen is: over here we have Mat, who 22 00:00:46.072 --> 00:00:48.758 actually did the design and build on all the technology here 23 00:00:48.758 --> 00:00:51.795 He's going to be typing in the names of anyone who needs to be banned. 24 00:00:51.795 --> 00:00:01.721 Over here is Dan. Nerd³, you might know him as. 25 00:00:01.721 --> 00:00:02.554 - Hello! 26 00:00:55.797 --> 00:00:58.982 - If you want anyone banned from your chat today, let us know. 27 00:00:58.982 --> 00:00:59.815 - Can do! 28 00:00:59.820 --> 00:01:03.200 - And the harder Chris swings this hammer, 29 00:01:03.200 --> 00:01:05.080 the more time they're going to be banned for. 30 00:01:05.087 --> 00:01:09.026 So Chris, if you're ready, let's take out someone. 31 00:01:12.164 --> 00:01:13.581 - Oh, I like this! 32 00:01:15.440 --> 00:01:17.224 All the pieces move as well! 33 00:01:17.224 --> 00:01:18.307 This is great! 34 00:01:19.620 --> 00:01:21.440 - So we have a server running locally on the computer, 35 00:01:21.440 --> 00:01:23.300 and that has a command line input, so you can type in 36 00:01:23.300 --> 00:01:25.554 the username of the person you want to ban, 37 00:01:25.554 --> 00:01:28.781 and then that tells the game to trigger all of the visual stuff. 38 00:01:28.781 --> 00:01:31.440 Then when the game does the ban with the hammer, 39 00:01:31.440 --> 00:01:34.440 that then pipes it back through the server to Twitch 40 00:01:34.440 --> 00:01:38.006 and then just sends the ban command from that moderator account. 41 00:01:38.006 --> 00:01:40.868 That can just send ban stuff into the chat with the chat commands. 42 00:01:40.868 --> 00:01:43.368 - Line 'em up, knock 'em down! 43 00:01:45.377 --> 00:01:48.035 You can't see what I'm seeing, you'll see it at some point. 44 00:01:48.040 --> 00:01:51.280 But this is a beautiful thing I'm witnessing in the background. 45 00:01:51.280 --> 00:01:53.640 - The avatar stuff was a little bit complicated to work out. 46 00:01:53.640 --> 00:01:56.280 With the Twitch avatars, firstly they're kind of unreliable, 47 00:01:56.280 --> 00:01:59.072 especially a lot of troll users don't actually have an avatar. 48 00:01:59.072 --> 00:02:02.740 But we ended up going with, it just spawns a sort of generic totem, 49 00:02:02.740 --> 00:02:04.800 and then it has your name above it, 50 00:02:04.800 --> 00:02:06.251 but then the colours randomise each time, 51 00:02:06.251 --> 00:02:09.533 so hopefully that's enough to tell it's a different person. 52 00:02:09.540 --> 00:02:11.700 It starts off as just a model of a totem, then as soon as you hit it, 53 00:02:11.700 --> 00:02:14.591 it swaps out for a bunch of chunks that are from the totem, 54 00:02:14.591 --> 00:02:16.783 and they all start simulating away, so you can 55 00:02:16.783 --> 00:02:19.325 actually hit it and then it will react to the hammer 56 00:02:19.325 --> 00:02:20.856 and you can swipe at the chunks afterwards and it will 57 00:02:20.856 --> 00:02:22.311 kind of knock them about. 58 00:02:22.311 --> 00:02:25.633 A huge sort of extra trick, I guess, with this stuff is to 59 00:02:25.633 --> 00:02:28.186 add as many different visual effects as you can, 60 00:02:28.186 --> 00:02:30.051 like having sparkles coming off everything. 61 00:02:30.051 --> 00:02:32.566 A lot of impacts really only make sense when you see dust 62 00:02:32.566 --> 00:02:34.809 and smoke and sparks flying up. 63 00:02:34.809 --> 00:02:37.912 - Someone has just said, "this is so sad, Alexa ban Despacito." 64 00:02:37.912 --> 00:02:41.297 Now, there isn't anyone in your chat called Despacito, but 65 00:02:41.300 --> 00:02:44.780 is that going to stop me asking Mat to type the name Despacito into here 66 00:02:44.780 --> 00:02:46.478 and just banhammer it anyway? 67 00:02:46.480 --> 00:02:47.895 No, of course not. 68 00:02:51.420 --> 00:02:53.420 - There we go! - I'd like to point out, this is a competent... 69 00:02:54.970 --> 00:02:56.303 - And it's gone! 70 00:02:57.344 --> 00:02:59.014 - I meant that one! 71 00:02:59.014 --> 00:03:01.306 - So you can literally just put any name in there? 72 00:03:01.306 --> 00:03:03.449 Wow, 575 seconds. 73 00:03:03.449 --> 00:03:05.616 - Wow, that was a big one! 74 00:03:06.920 --> 00:03:09.340 You really went for that one. 75 00:03:10.640 --> 00:03:14.000 - MrRiddleMan has never played Theme Hospital and is braced for a ban. 76 00:03:14.000 --> 00:03:16.700 Give it to him! That's "MrRiddleMan". 77 00:03:16.700 --> 00:03:18.700 With the green tick. 78 00:03:20.860 --> 00:03:23.739 - We didn't expect it to work at all for the first 10 times. 79 00:03:23.739 --> 00:03:26.405 But the first time Chris was in there and hit it, everyone 80 00:03:26.405 --> 00:03:30.072 just laughed because it just worked so well. 81 00:03:32.267 --> 00:03:34.720 - I wish... you see, you need an option to ban half of the chat. 82 00:03:34.720 --> 00:03:36.880 You need the Infinity Gauntlet in your next one, 83 00:03:36.880 --> 00:03:38.919 that's my patch notes for this. 84 00:03:38.919 --> 00:03:40.556 You need to be able to wield an Infinity Gauntlet 85 00:03:40.556 --> 00:03:43.174 and just ban half the thing. 86 00:03:43.180 --> 00:03:45.520 - We'll try in version 2.0. 87 00:03:45.520 --> 00:03:48.300 - Good, nice, I like it. 88 00:03:48.300 --> 00:03:51.460 - All right, well Dan, thank you for letting us join in here. 89 00:03:51.466 --> 00:03:53.378 - You're welcome. 90 00:03:53.378 --> 00:03:57.204 - We're going to leave you and your chat in peace now. 91 00:03:57.204 --> 00:03:59.100 Chris, I know you can't see me at the minute, 92 00:03:59.100 --> 00:04:01.440 but shall we have one last ban for the road? 93 00:04:01.440 --> 00:04:02.269 - Yeah! 94 00:04:02.269 --> 00:04:04.528 - Give us one last name, please, Dan. 95 00:04:04.528 --> 00:04:07.100 - One last name...
